Maker unknown

F:2019.12 and F:2019.13

Provenance: Antrim, Co. Antrim. Maker: Unknown

These two black painted chairs were donated to the National Museum of Ireland by Jane Price in 2019. She remembers the chairs being in her grandparents’ house from the time that she was a small child. She does not have any information on where the chairs might have come from originally. She believes the chairs were stained a black colour to match a black table.

Her grandparents owned McAleese pub in the Market Square in Antrim town. Ms. Price remembers that the chairs were "rarely sat upon during the week, but often, on a Saturday night, there would be a singsong in the living room and all chairs were suitably occupied with people singing and generally enjoying themselves."

The bottom parts of the legs of the chairs are slightly worn which Ms Price attributes to vigorous mopping and cleaning over the years.
