Escape the hustle and bustle for a few hours this weekend to reconnect with culture, heritage and nature in the Victorian setting of Turlough Park.

Here's what's on at the Museum on Saturday and Sunday, 16 and 17 December 2023.

'Live crib' in the Courtyard

11am to 4pm, Saturday, 16 December 2023
1pm to 4pm, Sunday, 17 December 2023

Discover our crib scene brought to life with animals from Kiltimagh Pet Farm in the Courtyard of Turlough Park House. Learn about and meet some of the animals, such as sheep, goats, cows and donkeys, which have become a part of our Christmas story and traditions.

Christmas carols with the Rock 'n' Roses choir

3pm, Saturday, 16 December 2023

The Museum is delighted to welcome the Rock'n'Roses Choir to the exhibition galleries for a festive carolling session at 3pm on Saturday, 16 December. The Rock 'n' Roses Choir is made up of cancer survivors and the choir takes its name from its headquarters at Rock Rose House, a voluntary cancer support service in Castlebar, Co Mayo. The choir meets up weekly for practice and a cup of tea. It is a fun group and a safe space for anyone that has, or is going through, a cancer diagnosis.

Christmas Carols with the Mayo Male Voice Choir and the Cill Aodain Choral Society

3pm and 4pm, Sunday, 17 December 2023

Join two of the region's leading choral groups for an atmospheric afternoon of Christmas carols in the exhibition galleries from 3pm on Sunday, 17 December. These performances with the Mayo Male Voice Choir and the Cill Aodain Choral Society have become a firm festive favourite with Museum visitors over the last number of years. Visitors can enjoy a repertoire of classic and contemporary Christmas carols and choral pieces.
The Mayo Male Voice Choir will be here at 3pm under the direction of Deirdre Lee. The Cill Aodain Choral Society will perform at 4pm under the direction of Finola Higgins-Cosgrove.

Decoration Hunt

During Museum opening hours

Throughout the month of December, pick up an activity sheet at Museum Reception and use the clues to solve this festive and fun, treasure-hunt style activity. The clues will lead visitors through three floors of exhibition galleries to find 12 decorations hanging in the displays. Enter a competition for a Christmas goodie hamper when you are finished!

Post your letter to Santa!

During Museum opening hours

Write the most important letter of the year and put it straight into our North Pole Express post box in Turlough Park House. All letters will be collected and whisked away in time for Santa to check before he packs his sleigh this year!
