Traditional Polish recipes

In association with our exhibitions exploring aspects of Polish history and culture in 2020, we are also exploring some traditional Polish recipes, compiled by Dorota and Dominik Denysiewicz.

1. Polish style stuffed cabbage rolls

Goląbki is a cabbage roll common in Polish cuisine made from lightly soft-boiled cabbage leaves wrapped around minced pork and beef, chopped onions, and rice and barley, which can be baked in a casserole dish, made on the stove top or even in a slow cooker.

2. Polish traditional ryemeal soup

Polish ryemeal soup with sausage, known as żurek, is typical of the 'sour' soups beloved by many Eastern Europeans.

3. Pork hock (Golonka)

Golonka (Pork hock) is considered a national dish of Poland and can be prepared in many ways.

4. Potatoe and cheese pierogi

Potato and cheese pierogi are one of the most popular Polish dishes. The filling is very simple - it consists only of three ingredients. It is the comfort food of every Pole, but they are also loved by tourists visiting Poland.

5. Traditional Polish beef rolls

Tender, aromatic beef in rich, smooth sauce… traditional Polish beef rolls is one of the most signature Polish dishes.

6. Traditional Polish pork cutlets

These traditional Polish pork cutlets (Kotlety mielone z mięsa wieprzowego) are a good example of a typical Polish main dish. The cutlets are wonderfully flavourful and tender.
