Photography, ordering photographic images of objects and copyright information

About 500 objects in this selection have been photographed by the professional NMI Photography Department. The other images of objects you see are documentation photographs taken by officers of the Registration Department for identification and general information purposes in the cataloguing process. The images of most of the paper based artefacts were provided by the mass Digitisation Project of our Historical Collections in 2013.

Professional, publication grade photographs can be ordered through the Rights and Reproductions Department, who can also provide you with other information re photographic images.

Individual image copyright statement is provided through the image alternative text, visible when hovering over the image.  Please respect these terms and conditions. When possible, the National Museum of Ireland is committed to making the national collections accessible to the public and encourages the use of images and other information to help engage and educate. We ask users to respect the copyright statement and when images are available for personal and academic reuse, to retain the NMI copyright information with the images in order to help other users source the image for further research.

Please contact the NMI’s Rights and Reproductions office for information and permissions to use these images for publications and commercial purposes.
