DEMONSTRATION: Boules on the Lawn at Turlough Park House
Admission Free | No Booking Required
Come along to watch members of Castlebar Pétanque Club demonstrate how to play this unique game and have an opportunity to try it out for yourself!
Pétanque, also known as outdoor boules, is a simple yet strategic sport. The aim of the game is for players to place their boules as close as possible to a small target ball known as a cochonnet. It is a very lively game and just one throw can change everything which means anything can happen until the final boule is played.
The game originated in early 20th-century France but has been played worldwide. It may have been played here by the Fitzgerald family who lived in Turlough Park House. It is now played across Ireland with the Castlebar Pétanque Club forming in 2024.
Watch Castlebar Pétanque Club demonstrate the game and then give it a go yourself!
There will be more information on the day for anyone interested in joining the club. You can also learn more about the club by visiting their Facebook page here.
This is a drop in event which means no booking is required.
