Provenance: Tuam district, Co. Galway. Maker: Unknown

This chair is made of unpainted ash wood which is moisture-resistant and has an attractive grain. The attractive wood grain can been seen in the backrest of this chair
 
The front legs continue beyond the seat to support the underside of the arms. There are interesting joints where the front board of the seat joins the arm rest supports.

Armchair LF:1953:2 is of exactly similar construction.

This chair was lent to the National Museum of Ireland from the Irish Folklore Commission (Coimisiún Béaloideasa Éireann) in 1953.
