Accessibility

Welcome to the Accessibility Page of the National Museum of Ireland

At the National Museum of Ireland, we believe that museums are for everyone. We are committed to creating welcoming, inclusive, and barrier-free experiences for all visitors.

Our Strategic Plan 2023–2028 places accessibility at the heart of everything we do, from our exhibitions and public programmes to our online resources and the way our buildings operate.

Our staff are aware of the diversity of visitors’ access requirements and are here to support you.

On this page, you’ll find links to the Museum’s Charter of Inclusion and information about accessibility at each of our locations in Dublin and Mayo.

National Museum of Ireland Charter of Inclusion

The National Museum of Ireland is proud to be working towards Autism-Friendly Accreditation with AsIAm, Ireland’s National Autism Charity. This process reflects our commitment to ensuring that every visitor and staff member feels welcome, supported, and empowered to participate fully in Museum life.

Our Charter of Inclusion sets out the principles and actions that guide us on this journey. It is inspired by the AsIAm accreditation framework, which focuses on four key pillars of inclusion — Environment, Predictability, Communication and Judgement and aligns with the Museum’s Strategic Plan 2023–2028, which prioritises accessibility, inclusion, and community engagement across all areas of our work.

Through this Charter, we reaffirm our commitment to increasing accessibility, removing barriers, and promoting positive awareness and understanding of neurodiversity across all four of our sites: Collins Barracks, Kildare Street, Merrion Street, and Turlough Park.
