Provenance: unknown. Maker: unknown

Th back of this chair is made of Spanish Chestnut, also known as Sweet Chestnut, which is not a tree native to Ireland. Spanish chestnut is not as resistant to wood worm and this chair shows old wood worm activity.

At the rear of the chair there is a carved out hand-grip. This enables the chair to be carried more easily. The seat is joined to the backrest by a tusk tenon joint. To create this joint, a tenon from the central board of the seat runs through the mortice in the seat back and extends beyond the back of the chair. The extended tenon is pinned in place by vertical peg.

The leg and the backrest are made from one long board. The bottom portion of the board has been shaped to create a narrower leg portion.

The maker and donor of this chair are unknown
