Online Activity: Hello Hyena

Free

Students pose in front of a spotted hyena (Crocuta crocuta) that was on display in Merrion Street

Did you know hyenas used to live in Ireland? Laugh along with us as we learn more about these predators from Ireland's prehistoric past.

Say hello to the spotted hyena in a short video and learn about how they went extinct in Ireland. Then when your done, grab your colouring pencils to create the most hilarious hyena you can with our colouring sheet.

How did the Hyena go extinct in Ireland?

Most of us associate hyenas with the African continent so it may be a surprise to know hyenas once lived on our island. Find out how we know this and how hyenas went extinct in this short video with Irish Sign Language (ISL)

Hilarious Hyenas

Hyenas are known for their laugh like calls that they make. See if you can give yourself the giggles by coluring in this hyena. Will you make yours bright orange or bubblegum pink? Don't forget its spots!
